Wrexham University teaches most courses at Plas Coch on Mold Road, next to the Racecourse Ground and about ten minutes on foot from the shops. Bangor University also runs a small health campus here. Students choose between rooms near campus, central properties close to both stations, and private houses let under Welsh occupation contracts.
Most Wrexham searches name the university, and nearly all of its Wrexham teaching happens at Plas Coch. This tab covers the campus, the station next door, match days at the Racecourse, campus facilities and the walk into town.
On Mold Road, right beside the Racecourse Ground. Wrexham University calls Plas Coch its main campus, with the library, Students' Union, sports centre and most teaching blocks. Its own guide puts the city centre about ten minutes away on foot.
The university puts Wrexham General station about five minutes from campus on foot. Transport for Wales trains run to Chester, Shrewsbury and Holyhead, the Borderlands line heads to Bidston, and a weekday direct train reaches London Euston.
Sometimes. The Racecourse, home of Wrexham AFC, stands beside campus, and Wikipedia notes a university car park next to its Macron Stand. Expect busier roads, trains and pubs when the team plays at home, so plan parking around fixtures.
Wikipedia describes the Racecourse as the oldest international football stadium still hosting internationals, and Wales has played more home games there than anywhere else. Students who follow football can walk from a lecture to the turnstiles in minutes.
For many first years, yes. A student blog on the university site says a campus room can be two minutes from class, with retail parks under five minutes away. Our Wrexham University page lists private properties near Plas Coch too.
Plas Coch holds a sports centre with a gym and classes, the Students' Union bar called Glyn's, and a large venue for gigs and events. A nursery runs on site as well, which helps student parents living close by.
Some courses run away from Mold Road, and a few sit outside Wrexham entirely. Here we cover Regent Street, Northop, St Asaph, Colliers Park and Bangor University's radiography base, so your room matches the place you study.
On Regent Street, in the city centre. The North Wales School of Art and Design uses a Grade II listed building there, about five minutes from Plas Coch. Art students can live centrally and still reach the main library quickly.
No. Northop sits in Flintshire, and Wrexham University shares that campus with Coleg Cambria. Wikipedia lists animal behaviour, equine science and veterinary nursing there. Students on those courses should check travel times before signing for a Wrexham room.
St Asaph Business Park in Denbighshire holds a Wrexham University campus with an opto electronics research centre and science labs. Most undergraduates never study there, but research students should ask where their lab work happens before choosing a room.
Colliers Park hosts the National Football Development Centre, with grass and 3G pitches, and the university lists it among its facilities. Sport students may train there for some sessions, so ask your department how often you travel out.
Yes. Bangor University runs a Wrexham campus at Wrexham Technology Park on Croesnewydd Road, next to the Maelor Hospital. Its site lists diagnostic radiography there. Students on that course can rent near the hospital or in the city centre.
Course pages and offer letters name the main teaching site. Wrexham University sites spread across three counties, so a cheap room on the wrong side of the city can add daily bus fares. Confirm the address, then search near it.
Wales sets its own renting rules through the Renting Homes (Wales) Act. Anyone renting signs as a contract holder, landlords must register, and safety paperwork comes with set deadlines. This tab explains the terms you will see on a Wrexham contract.
Wales uses this term for a tenancy. A Wrexham student signing for a private room becomes a contract holder, and private lets normally use a standard occupation contract. Welsh Government model versions are online, so you can check the wording.
Two weeks at most. Welsh Government guidance gives landlords 14 days from the day you can move in to hand over the full written terms and their own contact details. Keep a copy, since it sets out repairs, rent and notice.
The Welsh Government checklist lists a gas safety certificate before you move in, an electrical report within a fortnight, and an energy performance certificate. Homes need mains wired smoke alarms, plus carbon monoxide alarms where required.
It should be. Private landlords in Wales must register with Rent Smart Wales, and Wrexham University lists only accredited landlords on its Student Pad register. A larger shared house also needs an HMO licence from the council, so ask to see it.
Within 30 days. The Welsh Government checklist says a deposit must sit in an authorised protection scheme within 30 days of payment. Ask which scheme holds yours and keep the certificate, as it helps if you dispute deductions later.
Usually not. Citizens Advice Wales says a home lived in only by full time students is exempt, and student residences are exempt automatically. If one housemate leaves their course or starts full time work, the household may need to pay.
Central rooms put Plas Coch, Regent Street and both stations within walking distance. Here we look at a property near the centre, the bus station, Rhosddu, weekend trips out, the rent level and why private housing fills early.
Wrexham Central sits by the shops, about five minutes on foot from the bus station, while Wrexham General is roughly ten. Arriva and several smaller operators run buses from the bus station to Chester, Mold, Llangollen and Oswestry.
Rhosddu covers the north western parts of Wrexham beyond the commercial centre, including the Grosvenor Road conservation area. Much of its housing grew after the railway arrived. Walk the route to your campus before you commit to a house there.
Trains from Wrexham General reach Chester, and buses from the bus station run to Llangollen in the Dee valley. Students without a car can still reach a historic walled city, canal paths and open hills on a free afternoon.
Snowdon Hall on Vicarage Hill is one example. Its page quotes a 15 minute walk to Wrexham University, 10 minutes to Bangor's Wrexham campus, and Wi-Fi, utilities and contents insurance in the rent, plus a garden, bike storage and laundry.
Around £125 a week at the lower end of our Wrexham pages, with bills included. Private house shares can cost less per room but add energy and broadband on top. Price the full contract and ask what each package covers.
Wrexham University has said demand for student housing grew with student numbers and a shortage of affordable shared houses, and it has planned extra beds at Plas Coch. Start searching early and keep a second option in mind.
