  • How Are Cancellation Requests Made On Personal/Medical Grounds Reviewed?

The Cancellations team consider to which the circumstances that impact a customer's ability to live in the property. A serious illness, injury, or medical emergency that requires hospitalisation followed by prolonged recovery will be considered for cancellation. In such instances, the cancellations team will review your request, together with the provided evidence, liaising with you where necessary, and forward the request on to a Regional Director for consideration to ensure a balanced view is taken.

There may also be exceptional circumstances (e.g. bereavement) in which a customer may need to cancel. These, too, will be considered in light of the evidence provided.

Circumstances that will not be considered for cancellation and should be raised directly with your property team:

    • Maintenance issues
    • Noise complaints
    • Incompatible flatmates

  • I Have Withdrawn From University, Can I Cancel?

Terminating your university/college course does not automatically make you eligible for cancellation. When submitting your request and evidence, please detail the sensitive or exceptional circumstances that have meant you have had to withdraw from university/college.

Circumstances that will not be considered for cancellation in this instance:

    • Changed mind about university/college or course
    • Have decided to go to another university/college
  • Can I Cancel If I’m No Longer A Student?
  • Can I Cancel If I’m No Longer A Student?

It depends on the reason why you have withdrawn from university and are no longer a student. Having a non-student status does not mean you are automatically eligible for cancellation. Please provide details on why you have withdrawn from studying and attach any applicable evidence.

If your cancellation request is declined, you will no longer be eligible to live in the student accommodation, but you will remain liable for the remaining rent instalments of the tenancy agreement or until a replacement tenant is found.

  • Can I Cancel If My Visa Has Expired?
  • Can I Cancel If My Visa Has Expired?

If you have failed to obtain the visa needed to take up your university place at the start of the academic year, you can submit a cancellation request for consideration. This does not include situations where your visa has been granted and subsequently withdrawn or has expired. For example, if you make a booking that starts in September 2026 and finishes in August 2027, but your visa at the time of booking shows an expiry date of January 2027, you are still liable for the full tenancy ending in August 2027.

  • My CancellatiOn Request Has Been Declined But I Still Want To Leave. What Do I Do?

If you still wish to leave the property, then you are free to do so at any time. If you wish to leave the property and remove your liability for the rent, you will be required to find a replacement tenant. We recommend advertising your accommodation on social media or your university’s forum. If you require any assistance with selling your room, please check with your Property Team, who may be able to help. Please liaise with your property team if a replacement tenant is found.

    Please note all tenancy takeovers:

Do You Need a Guarantor?

Most landlords and letting agents require a UK-based guarantor. Without one, you may be asked to pay your full year's rent upfront. To help students navigate this, we've partnered with Housing Hand, which can provide a recognised certificate of rental guarantee, giving both you and your landlord peace of mind.

It's worth knowing that several of our student halls don't require a UK-based guarantor at all, allowing students to pay rent in convenient instalments instead. To find out which properties qualify and how to get started, reach out to our team. We're happy to guide you through the booking process from start to finish.

hi, this gonna take long cause i'm gonna tell you why i give 5 stars and not 4 or 1. i've been living here since 2023 and i'm graduating in 2026. so almost 3 years here. as an international student it's really sad and lonely to be where you're not usually stay at. but hydrogen never make me feel sad NOR lonely. they always have something every week be it pizza night, movie night, eid, christmas, halloween, they will always do something fun. and i appreciate that a lot. i could stay in my bed in my room the whole week - that's how comfortable this accomodation is. in terms of facilities, the only thing that is missing is gym. but i believe they are planning on something cause we pay A LOT so a little gym room with treadmills and some lifting stuff won't hurt their pocket hehe. everything you can think of is here. snooker? they have it. board games? simply direct yourself to lower ground and you'll see it. pingpong? they have it. don't ask for swimming pools we ain't living in a hotel here HAHAH. i always hang out with my friend at their social space and my friends have been loving it. we had so many memories there. now this is where i feel appreciated the most. their staffs. they are SO SO SO LOVELY. kristy, ameera and sean ( had been the most amazing people. they always helped me, always been kind and chatty and i love that. don't get me wrong, other staffs a nice too, i just don't remember their names haha. and i was so so so sad that kristy and ameera left cause it's now not the same anymore :( the new staffs don't look friendly but i know it's just me. maybe they're trying to adapt with the new environment too so that's totally understandable. sean once helped me paint my room cause i desperately wanted a gray walls instead of orange and he fulfilled. i love sean for that god please don't let sean quit his job. tbh i don't know if i spelled his name correctly so if you're reading this, i'm sorry if i got your name wrong! guys, please consider this accomodation as your first and firm choice. you'll never regret it. and now that i'm graduating, i feel sad to leave this place too - that's how attached i am with hydrogen. i love you hydrogen!!! attached is my room hehe

My wife and I have spent the past 2 months at Student Roost - Hydrogen in dorm rooms that are being used as Airbnbs. Just in the city center, it's a great location will entertainment and food nearby. Onsite laundry and the dorm have been nice also. What has stood out the most though is Kristy at the front desk who has been incredibly helpful and accomodating. She's gone above and beyond all expectations with any thing we've needed, big or small. She's always nice and prioritizes people, making sure they are taken care of. I wrote this review to make sure she gets some sort of recognition. Being an Airbnb guest (not a student), she's had no reason to see to it that my wife and I are treated kindly and with respect but she's been absolutely amazing. Thank you Kristy for being the most impressionable and memorable part of an already amazing stay here in Nottingham:) I really hope this review gets noticed by your superiors so that they can see what a wonderful job you're doing:) 100% Amazing:)

It is a really good place to stay while studying at Uni, The staff are super polite and helpful. They really put in a lot of work to cater to tenants and also make sure to keep all the facilities up to date. Wholeheartedly can recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in city centre

I have lived at Hydrogen since Nov22 and move out in September23. My experience has been very positive. The staff on reception are so friendly and helpful- around 24/7, and follow up issues quickly. The social spaces are modern and a great space to work in. They put on events fairly regularly, but maybe not quite as often as other student roost buildings- more events/activities would’ve been good. My room was a great space- (I had a silver studio), and it was big and modern (gray carpets and gray walls, unlike the photos that look much more run down) but am aware not all rooms are updated yet. I was on the 1st floor and expected lots of noise, but the windows block out most of the noise and it’s actually really quiet at night! Shower, heating and hot water works perfectly, unlike what some of the reviews say. Location is fantastic, bus service, tram service and NTU city campus all within 5 min walk- and right in central city centre. Overall, really loved my time at Hydrogen!

Great place for students! The common area is perfect for both studying and relaxing with friends. Loved the pool table and gaming zone. I had some amazing memories here—highly recommend it!
