Been here countless times and it could never tire of it!
If you grew up in the 80s, or just wish you did, the museum is currently displaying a Retro Reels must-see. Seeing iconic movie replicas parked right next to Glasgow’s historic trams and steam engines creates a surreal, "time-travel" atmosphere that you won't find anywhere else.
The "Hero" Props: Seeing the DeLorean from Back to the Future in person is a bucket-list moment. The detail is incredible, and it’s positioned perfectly for photos.
Sci-Fi Heaven: As a fan of the classics, getting up close to the Daleks, K9, and the TARDIS was a highlight. The Star Wars section is equally impressive, the Scout Trooper on the Speeder Bike looks like it zoomed straight off the screen from Return of the Jedi.
Nostalgia Overload: From the E.T. display to the chaotic Gremlins kitchen scene, the exhibition captures the pure creativity of 80s practical effects. It’s a wonderful reminder of why these films shaped a generation.
The Setting: There is something uniquely "Glasgow" about seeing an AT-ST towering over an old subway carriage. The Riverside Museum is already world-class, but this exhibition adds a layer of fun that appeals to both kids and "big kids" alike.
It’s free, it’s nostalgic, and it’s brilliantly curated. Whether you're there for the Doctor Who props or the Spielberg magic, Retro Reels is definitely worth the peek!
