Do You Need a Guarantor?

Most landlords and letting agents require a UK-based guarantor. Without one, you may be asked to pay your full year's rent upfront. To help students navigate this, we've partnered with Housing Hand, which can provide a recognised certificate of rental guarantee, giving both you and your landlord peace of mind.

It's worth knowing that several of our student halls don't require a UK-based guarantor at all, allowing students to pay rent in convenient instalments instead. i've lived here from sep 2024 to june 2025 and honestly it's decent. I'm going to start of with the pros, most of their reception staff are really kind and helpful and offer some decent ammenities such as cinema room and study room. The reception is also pretty good if you frequently order online and want your items to be stored properly. My townhouse has a really nice kitchen which was pretty big compared to other student houses i've seen so it was good having friends over and such. My room was honestly not bad it did feel tiresome walking three floors if you're already carrying some items but the room had plenty of ammenities such as plenty of storage options, nice desk and socket ports which were in every corner of my room and i only had to share my bathroom with one person. Now the cons, while basically most of the staff is really nice, there's this one person who i won't name who seemed to be extremely condescending for no apparent reason while the other staff are at least cheerful and are always happy to help while this person makes it seem like they are a big favour on us. I think the other issue is the fact that the accomodation is situated in the end of mill road so if you're an ARU student, then it could take like 20 minuted to walk. On the bright side there is bus stops near the place which was quite convienent to me but even then the location is somewhat subpar since all the nicest parts of cambridge are a bit far from the accom so you'll lose some calories if you're going to walk to let's say the city centre. although this part is not neccesarily cam foundry's fault but i recall when the bridge that connects the uni to the accomodation was closed since there was some bomb in someone's backyard, i was quite new to that area so i took a detour which was like 40 mins long. although the saving grace of the location is onestop near us, a big sainsbury which is only a 7 mins walk and as i;ve mentioned once the bus stops near the accom. Oh yeah, enjoy spending 6 quid for washing and dryer in which the dryer doesn't work(no i don't overflow the dryer with clothes) although it does seem like i've mentioned some cons, Cam foundry typically did some events that made the accom seem lively and also gave free food and other items which seemed nice. The maintenance was honestly nice since i recall my shower pressure being weak and they fixed it in like couple of days and like the other comments i haven't faced a water shortage thankfully. There were also two cats which made the reception quite nice.

I’ve been really pleased with my experience living at The Cam Foundry. The accommodation has been comfortable and reliable and I haven’t had any issues during my stay. The staff have always been friendly, approachable, and genuinely happy to help. The maintenance team is great as well, they respond quickly and get things fixed without any hassle. I’ve really enjoyed my time here and feel well looked after.

I think The Cam Foundry has been recently renovated as my room looks great- spacious, modern, and with my own kitchen, which I really appreciate. I came for 3 months and i really love it here! The staff are friendly and helpful, and the residence has some great facilities: a cinema room, study spaces, bike storage, and they even keep your parcels safe. The two resident cats are absolutely adorable and make the place feel extra homey. The only small downside for me is that it’s a bit of a walk from the city centre, but you can see that when booking. I rented a bike and it works perfectly. Overall, a really lovely place to stay in Cambridge!
