Despite being advertised as student-only, many long-term non-student tenants live here, including some from other countries, whose behaviour has at times made genuine student residents feel uncomfortable and unsafe in their own accommodation (without sounding racist which i will be labled as anyway). This is ridiculous for a student accommodation.

Overall, very poor accommodation for the price you pay. First, the smells in the hallways are terrible, with flies everywhere in the building. Washing constantly gets left by other people sometimes for days on end, the machines are mostly out of order and to pay over £5 each wash is so extortionate. Safety is a big issue, many people who do not live at Nelson linger round the front door waiting for a tenant to come and open the door and sneak into the building. Communal areas are often left in an unacceptable way with piles of rubbish and alcohol left in the mezzanine floor spaces. At the start of the year the water supply was cut off and no compensation given, just an email saying to shower in the downstairs gym and tenants having to supply our own bottles of water . A mis selling of the building is the running track, I know its Ulster Uni who is responsible for it, but the track doesn’t get used and is constantly locked. The walls in the corridors look horrendous with white patches of paint dotted all around. In my opinion, if you can stay somewhere else, do. For the price of this Accom it is not worth it!

I’m writing this review on behalf of my friend Pranay, who had an awful experience at Nelson Place. After being evicted, he wasn’t even allowed to visit his friends who still live there. The way he was treated by the property managers, especially Nelson and Matthew, along with the reception team, was extremely unprofessional and left him feeling humiliated and isolated. A student accommodation should provide community and support, but Nelson Place has done the complete opposite. The reception staff were rude, unhelpful, and showed no understanding of his situation. I would strongly advise future students to think carefully before choosing Student Roost. What happened to my friend should not happen to anyone else. — A concerned friend

When I signed for Nelson Place, I was expecting exactly what was advertised — a safe, well-managed building for students. Unfortunately, my experience hasn’t matched the marketing at all. (Which you would expect for the price you pay)... From early on, it became obvious that this isn’t purely student accommodation. There are long-term residents here who aren’t studying, including people from other countries, and their presence has completely changed the atmosphere. This isn’t about diversity... it’s about the fact that some of these individuals have been openly aggressive, disruptive, or intimidating in shared spaces. It’s hard to relax or study when you feel on edge walking through your own corridor. This is not about diversity, this feels genuinely racist towards white people. This has became obvious in a number of other reviews other than mine. This is not a one off for this property, it is a pattern. Communication from management has been another major frustration. If something goes wrong, you rarely get a straight answer. Charges have appeared on my account with no explanation, and even after asking multiple times, I’ve been given vague or conflicting information. For students budgeting carefully, this is unnecessary stress. For example (Hand in your key before when you move out before noon they charge £15, hand in after before 4pm £30. Like what is that?) The upkeep of the building leaves a lot to be desired. I’ve seen rubbish including things that should never be left in public view like female sanitary products and contraceptive products sitting in communal areas for over a week. The carpets are stained, and there’s a constant stale smell in certain hallways. It doesn’t feel like the cleaning standards match what we’re paying for. There is also the worst paint job you will ever see, the paint on the walls changes colour every foot you walk. Which makes it feel like a prison with reckless walls and holes in the walls more than a 'luxury' student accommodation. One of the worst experiences was when we lost all running water for a full week. Yes, I understand the burst pipe was beyond the building’s control, but the “solutions” we were given were completely impractical — a small water fountain for drinking and a suggestion to shower at a gym. That is not acceptable for tenants who are paying full rent (ps. that wast the email they sent in a nutshell). No compensation was offered despite the major disruption. I am not the first person to make a review on this either... but it gets swept under the rug. Basic services are also unreliable. The Wi-Fi is patchy at best, which makes coursework harder to manage. The laundry facilities are often broken, and even when they work, people leave clothes in the machines for days. Trying to get them moved has, on more than one occasion, resulted in verbal abuse — again, mostly from non-student residents — with no visible follow-up from management. If you’re thinking of moving here, be aware that the experience you get may be very different from the brochure. Until Nelson Place starts enforcing a genuine student-only policy, improves communication, and commits to proper maintenance, I can’t recommend it to others. Ps. After looking at previous reviews student roost has tried to deny and brush under the rug the issues. This was my completely honest and transparent review. If there was an issue that was fixed it was not in here, these are the issues that have not been resolved for the 25/26 academic year. I have not been able to post under my actual name, this is a burner email to hide my identity.

A Very Good Residence for International Students I really enjoyed my time living in this residence. It has many great things: a sky lounge with a nice view, seminar rooms for group work, a gym, a cinema room, a shared kitchen for cooking with friends, a laundry room, and TVs on the G and M floors. Everything is included in the monthly rent. I made great memories spending time with other international students. Also, the staff organize fun events every week, and you can join them for free. I highly recommend this place!
