I’ve stayed here for around 4,5 months. I had no better option considering the fact that international students get scammed very easily in Göttingen. This is for real and happened to one of my friends. Booking online is quite easy. Being able to make payments by credit card is another advantage. The comments about the deposit return are just. I read some complaints about the same in the dorm’s WA group. I proceeded with the insurance by Garentii which is another advantage of this place. I hope and assume that they will not ask any additional payment. If I encounter any problems, I’ll update this part. It’s obviously quite high for Goettingen. When I moved in, the single apartment was more than two times of the same in the uni dorms. They increased it even more during the said 4,5-month period. I had no problem with wifi, heating and hot water, and they worked perfectly. It’s a bit far from the city centre and central campus but I think this isn’t an issue since there is a bus stop right in front of the dorm, and there are 2 free buses(semester ticket) going to the central area. If you’re a student in the LIPIT program at the university, the location is like a gift for you. The lecture building is about 10-minute walk. Having a gym, cardio room and study areas is a huge advantage. They also provide free yoga classes. Whether the shared kitchen is good depends on the persons you share it with. They clean the kitchen floors once a week and provide a general cleaning once a month I guess. I just wish they had separate kitchens for vegans/vegetarians. Maybe they will do so in the future. Washing machines cost EUR 3,5, and dryers cost EUR 2,20. I guess it’s a bit pricey. Laundry is another problem since careless and annoying people just do not pick their clothes up for hours after the machines are finished. Either you have to wait for hours for them or empty the machines by yourself. Even though it doesn’t feel good to touch someone else’s clothes, they give you no choice sometimes.This is one of the most annoying things. There is no deterrent help/act on Basecamp’s end either. Trash room is not emptied enough. Especially glasses look like a mess. Bike room is another advantage but it’s a bit messy there. The door was broken, and it was not fixed for a long time. It is still broken. There is a noise problem in this place. Many students do not respect the quiet hours. I was not adversely affected by this but this is totally my luck. I cannot say the same for the building B where some of my friends lived and weren’t happy about the parties/gatherings lasting until 2-3 am or even later. If possible, I recommend not booking a room/apartment in that building. They are obviously understaffed. I’m definitely not blaming the current personnel, especially Cherly who is kind enough to do her best to help you. However, due to the limited number of staff, it’s not easy to find someone in the reception all the time. In such place with so many people living, they need more staff members and the reception should be reachable easily and constantly. This is unfortunately not the case. I’ve not experienced anything bad as I didn’t need help with major issues. It’s however a question mark if I’ve had so. For example, one of my friends recently told me that the elevator in her building stopped working and the doors were locked as well, and they had to wait more than half an hour for someone to help them and reach their rooms. There are lots of events (pizza day, ESN parties, Halloween party etc.) to socialise. I wasn’t able to benefit from any of them due to my busy schedule, but if this is what you need or have time for, you should be satisfied. I needed someone to reset the password of the kitchen cabinet for me to use it, but nobody was able to help for 1,5 months. I then gave up. Base buddies are no help. One buddy was talking loudly in the silent study room. When I warned him about this, he was quite surprised, meaning that the buddy himself either has no idea about the rules or just doesn’t care.
