The experience of living in Silk Mill is very good! The dormitory is very new. It's not easy to find a dormitory with a washing machine, dryer, and dishwasher in Edinburgh! I can also enjoy free hot chocolate every day, which makes me feel really happy. The gym is also very new, and there are not many people in the morning. I will miss the days of living in Silk Mill. Oh, by the way, there is a very large common dining room where I can invite friends to come over, cook together, and we even had a New Year's Eve dinner together here, and it didn't feel crowded even with 10 people.

Absolutely thrilled to share my stellar experience with this student accommodation in Edinburgh, a gem that stands out with its unique offerings of both dishwashers, washing machines, and a large refrigerator in each studio—truly a rare find in the city! If you're looking to save time on studying and having fun, and elevate your living standards to the next level, this is definitely the dormitory you should choose. What really sets this place apart, though, is the incredible staff. Sam, Robbie and Aoife at the front desk are nothing short of amazing. Their warmth and enthusiasm make all the difference, and their effort to regularly organize events has made living here feel like a vibrant community. Yes, being a relatively new establishment, there were some teething issues with management initially. However, having lived here for two years, I've witnessed first-hand the remarkable strides they've made in improving every aspect of our living experience. Today, the accommodation is nothing short of fantastic. What hasn't changed, though, are the state-of-the-art facilities that have remained impressively new throughout. My personal experience tells me that this is far more satisfying than a dormitory that has been operating for years and is on a downhill path. If you're looking for a top-notch student accommodation in Edinburgh, this is the place to be.

A Wonderful Year at Silk Mill – Four Stars! I would rate my year-long stay at Silk Mill from September 2023 to August 2024 with four stars. Here’s why: 【Pros】 1. Convenient Location: Silk Mill is ideally situated near Lidl and Sainsbury’s, making shopping a breeze. There’s a pharmacy right across the street and easy access to bus routes 1, 34, and 35, which makes commuting to the university and city center very convenient. I also love its proximity to the canal, where I enjoyed many leisurely walks. 2. Spacious and Clean Common Areas: The common areas at Silk Mill are spacious and well-maintained. I have celebrated Spring Festival and Dragon Boat Festival at the coffee bar with friends. The study area is also a favorite of mine, where I’ve spent numerous hours writing essays, reading literature, and studying with friends. 3. Friendly Staff: The staff here are always warm and welcoming. I was particularly touched by the festive atmosphere during the Spring Festival; the entire apartment was thoughtfully decorated, making it feel like home. Additionally, the staff was incredibly helpful when I needed assistance with trash disposal while I was away on a trip. 【Personal Experience】 1. Studio on the Ground Floor: My ground floor studio came with a large fridge (perfect for stocking up!), a washer-dryer which is crucial for me, and a dishwasher that I used as storage for pots and pans! The bathroom is twice as big as those in typical apartments, and the wardrobe with a mirror is impressively large. 2. Room Orientation: My room faces the sun, so during summer, I had to keep the curtains drawn and use a fan to stay cool. Fortunately, the air conditioning in the common areas was always on, providing a nice escape from the heat. 【Cons and Suggestions】 1. Waste Management: There was a period when the garbage room was quite messy, which was a concern for all residents. 2. Breakfast Misrepresentation: Initially, the promise of a free breakfast attracted me, but it turned out to be just energy bars and cookies for the first few weeks. I would suggest not using this as a selling point anymore, as the amenities like the washer and dishwasher are attractive enough. 3. Maintenance Issues: Sometimes, the response time for in-apartment repairs and the maintenance of the communal printer could be improved. Living at Silk Mill truly felt like home, and I’ve made great friends here. Whenever I spoke to my parents, I would say “I’m home” rather than “I’m back at the apartment.” Thank you!
