Roman House, Derby

Since moving in to Roman House this September, my experience has been great across the board. I booked a studio plus (for 44 weeks) and have been very impressed with the cleanliness of my apartment and the facilities offered both in room and in the apartment complex. The studio plus comes equipped with a kitchen (combination microwave instead of oven), ensuite, desk and TV along with lots of storage space for all your belongings. The room is very spacious and the bed is pretty comfortable and all bills are included (except TV license and laundry). The apartment complex comes fit with a reception area, common room, study spaces, cinema room, small gym (for basic workouts), and laundry room that uses circuit laundry (prices are a bit steep here). The building is suitably located close to the centre of Derby with a Lidl in walking distance (5 mins), and nearby to the university buildings. Kedleston Road Campus is a little far (25 mins walk), but is easily accessible via the free Unibus which has a stop very close by. There is no onsite parking so if you are planning on using a car you will need to get a season ticket for parking nearby or park in a NCP car park. The onsite staff are very friendly and helpful, having been able to assist with any of my questions or queries. Dave, the maintenance operative is efficient in fixing anything broken in the rooms or facilities and the cleaning staff make sure the building is immaculate at all times. Shoutout to Jacki: the accommodation manager who is lovely, knowledgeable and always able to help when she can. Overall, a great, comfortable living space for students looking for a bit more independence!

My experience in Roman house has been really welcoming and friendly. The staff are amazing and all the students have been really nice. I love the gym which is right next to my room so it’s nice to unwind after a day at placement.

As an extended postgraduate student, I had lived across several private accommodation sites since 2019. Roman House remains the best one in Derby: So much so that I'd returned there in 2022. Notably, the accommodation team have been consistently excellent over the years, with the upgrades diligently supervised by Ms. Pearce and co. last year elevating the site's attractiveness and utility. The current team (Yuan, Sarah and Dave) are supportive, fair, pleasant & proactive, and will make your student experience in Derby the best possible. Strong recommend for all students of all stripes: You can't go wrong with Roman House in 2025/2026!

Even though I’m not a Derby student, I chose to live here and ended up staying for over 3 years because it’s genuinely that good. The extra travelling has always been worth it, because this place truly feels like home. The value for money is incredible, the community is warm and welcoming, and it honestly feels like a second family. The rooms are high-quality, comfortable, and designed for real peace and quiet. Any repairs get sorted incredibly fast, the on-site gym is fantastic, and the lounge and cinema room are outstanding for relaxing or spending time with friends. The security throughout the building is excellent and gave me so much peace of mind, especially when moving out for the first time. I’ve never once regretted staying here. It’s an amazing place to live and I recommend it to anyone. Definitely not making a mistake staying here!
