Around 15 minutes' walk from York St John University and 25 minutes from the University of York, The Brickworks offers conveniently located student accommodation. The building contains self-contained studios, as well as study and social spaces to enhance the student living experience, including a gym, cinema room and lounge.
All the attractions of York's historic city centre are within walking distance of The Brickworks. The city has a great range of bars, restaurants and live music venues alongside its beautiful buildings, and there are useful amenities like supermarkets nearby too. Cancellation policy

After 31st July, students won’t be able to cancel their bookings unless their reason falls within our cancellation policy.

A booking can be cancelled up to and including 31st July of the year when the student was due to move in. The booking fee is non-refundable.

After 31st July, if a student wishes to cancel a booking, they will remain liable for the contractual obligations laid out in the Tenancy Agreement, unless proof of one of the following can be supplied:

1.Their UK Visa application has been denied

2. They have failed to obtain the required qualifications to get into their university of choice

3. Extenuating circumstances e.g.: ill-health, family circumstances

Evidence of a) or b) should be supplied to iQ Student Accommodation within 72 hours of receiving official confirmation. 

Where the reason for cancellation can’t be proved in line with the above, the student will remain liable for the full contractual rent, unless and until a replacement tenant is found. The student is responsible for finding an eligible replacement tenant, although site staff will assist where possible. If a replacement tenant is found, the student will be released from the contractual obligations laid out in the Tenancy Agreement and any rent money will be refunded. The booking fee will be retained.

    What is the deadline for 1st installment?

    The deadline for the first instalment is 1st August.

    Is the Student Accommodation site secure?

    The physical safety and psychological security of the students is taken care of at the property. This is done through the use of CCTV cameras, on-site security staff and on-site teams available around the clock, 365 days a year. Secure door entry is also employed at the entrance to the property. This can only be breached if you physically open the door for someone. That is why we suggest you take special care to not allow people to tailgate you.

    Can I book if I'm under 18?

    The property does not accept guardianship of the students under the age of 18.

    Can I bring a TV?

    The short answer is yes, as long as you meet all the prerequisites. This means that before you bring a TV, you must know whether your room has a TV point. Your TV should not be larger than 21 inches and should be able to free-stand as wall-mounted TVs are not allowed. The property provides TVs and TV licenses in the communal areas but if you want a TV in your own room, you will have to arrange for a license yourself. If you have any more questions, you can check in with the on-site team.

    Can I bring my bike?

    Yes, most sites feature dedicated bike storage areas. As long as you are a resident at the property, have registered your bike and obtained a bike tag, you will be able to bring and store your bikes at the property.

    Do You Need a Guarantor?

    Most landlords and letting agents require a UK-based guarantor. Without one, you may be asked to pay your full year's rent upfront. To help students navigate this, we've partnered with Housing Hand, which can provide a recognised certificate of rental guarantee, giving both you and your landlord peace of mind.

    It's worth knowing that several of our student halls don't require a UK-based guarantor at all, allowing students to pay rent in convenient instalments instead.       I could not have asked for a nicer accommodation! The Brickworks is an amazing accommodation for first year students located in a great location close to YSJ Uni as well as York centre. I could not praise the staff enough they go above and beyond to support every individual living at this accommodation. They host so many different events from bringing in alpacas, hosting pizza nights and providing arts, crafts and free activities. If there is ever any maintenance problems someone always sorts it urgently and staff are always available even throughout the night if you have any concerns. Krissie is so kind and caring who is always there to help with any concerns and is always there if you need someone to talk to. The common room is an amazing place with a pool table, ping pong table, vending machine, sofas and a tv to hang out and speak to new people. My room, bathroom and kitchen was extremely tidy with enough storage to keep all your equipment. I highly recommend this accommodation; I will miss living there!

      Clean building, lovely staff, fun common room with lots of entertainment including pool table, table tennis, vending machine foosball and many tvs. Also fun popups through the year such as ice cream, therapy dog visits, iced coffees and many more all for free. Really recommend this accommodation definitely worth the money,

      Chrissy , ruthie Alex and Gareth are amazing staff who always provide a friendly face and a chat no matter what ! All of the staff go above and beyond for the students and really get to know everyone . We also love the events that are put on regularly and you can really see the effort put into everything they do . Amazing place to stay ( also honourable mention to my fave security staff who are also very very friendly and help with everything at all hours

      Absolutely amazing accommodation. I had an issue with my back breaking and the staff have been so helpful, made the whole process so much easier for me and everyone involved. Reasonable pricing to boot, great offerings all around. Would highly recommend!
